- This file contains important information about using the updater
- to update Extreme 3D version 1.0 or 1.0.1 to Extreme 3D version
- 1.0.2. It also describes some of the main differences between
- version 1.0.2 and version 1.0. Information in this file supplements
- and supersedes information in the Extreme 3D documentation and

-
- USING EXTREME 3D 1.0.2 UPDATERS
-
- TO UPDATE EXTREME 3D ON MAC:
- Updating on the Mac is a two-step process involving running an updater
- and copying one additional file. The updater application updates
- either Extreme 3D 1.0 or Extreme 3D 1.0.1 to version 1.0.2.
-
- 1. Double-click the E3D102.upd icon.
-
- 2. Click the splash screen. The updater searches your system for the
- Extreme 3D application. When it locates Extreme 3D, a system dialog
- box opens with the application name highlighted in the top panel and
- the folder in which the application was found displayed in the
- bottom panel.
-
- 3. If the version of Extreme 3D that the system locates is the one
- you want to update, click the Update button in the dialog box. If
- the version of Extreme 3D that the system locates is not the one
- you want to update, double-click the file name highlighted in the
- top panel and use the system dialog box to find the correct
- location before clicking the Update button. If there is not enough
- space on your disk to perform the update, a message is displayed.
- The Extreme 3D version that you select is overwritten by the
- new version. The updating process begins when you click Save. A
- message is displayed when updating is successfully completed. When
- the Updater dialog box opens again, click Quit.
-
- 4. Manually replace your existing ScanlineRender.ext file with the new
- one. This file is located in the Scripts : Extensions folder of your
- Extreme 3D folder.
-
- 5. When you next open your Extreme 3D application, you will be using
- version 1.0.2.
-
- TO UPDATE EXTREME 3D ON WINDOWS:
- To update Extreme 3D 1.0 to version 1.0.2, use the E3D102A.exe
- application. To update Extreme 3D 1.0.1 to version 1.0.2, use the
- E3D102B.exe application. If you are not sure which version of
- Extreme 3D you are using, start Extreme 3D and choose About Extreme
- 3D from the Apple menu. The product version number is displayed on
- the screen that appears.
-
- 1. Double-click either the E3D102A.exe icon if you have Extreme 3D
- version 1.0; or the E3D102B.exe icon if you have Extreme 3D
- version 1.0.1.
-
- 2. A dialog box opens prompting you to find the directory
- containing the version of Extreme 3D that you want to update.
-
- 3. Click OK to open the Locate System to Update dialog box.
- Search your system for the location of the copy of Extreme 3D that
- you want to update, then click OK.
-
- 4. A dialog box opens asking if you want to perform the update.
- Choose Yes.
-
- 5. The update is performed while a progress window is displayed. A
- message appears when updating is successful. When you next launch
- your Extreme 3D application, you will be using version 1.0.2.
-
- WINDOWS INSTALLATION NOTES
-
- In Windows 3.1, an incomplete installation of the Win32s extensions
- will cause a DOS error when you double-click the application icon.
- This can be fixed by fully updating your system. Macromedia Technical
- Support can fax you information on uninstalling the provided
- version of Microsoft's Win32s extensions. This version can then be
- reinstalled.
-
- CONFIGURATION
-
- The amount of real RAM on your system determines the complexity of
- the geometry you can hold in a scene. Messages such as "Z buffer
- overflow" indicate that the scene is too complex for the system.
- You can handle such a situation by increasing the amount of real
- RAM, by increasing virtual memory, by setting lower smoothness
- settings for smaller or more distant objects, by rendering in
- layers and compositing in post-production, by using fewer
- shadow-casting lights, or by using smaller texture maps.

- DOCUMENTATION CORRECTIONS
-
- Using Extreme 3D
-
- Page 3- In the table for Windows system requirements, the text
- under Requirement for the component: Microprocessor should read:
- "486 processor or higher. (Pentium system recommended for
- professional work.)"
-
- Page 419 and Page 420- in the Import: file types tables a note
- should be appended to the description of DXF files that says,
- "Holding down the Option key (Macintosh) or F3 key (Windows) while
- importing a DXF file will ungroup unrelated polylist objects (such
- as all the end caps in a scene) that DXF normally groups together
- as one object."
-
- Page 471- Surface smoothness settings can be applied to child
- objects of a selected parent object if you hold the Option key
- (Macintosh) or F3 key (Windows) when you click the Update button
- in either smoothness setting dialog box.
-
- TROUBLESHOOTING
-
- If you had a version of MacroModel installed on your Macintosh system
- prior to installing Extreme 3D, the MacroModel icon might appear in
- place of the Extreme 3D icon on your desktop. Although there is no
- other problem associated with keeping MacroModel on your system, the
- MacroModel icon will continue to appear in place of the Extreme 3D icon
- until you remove the MacroModel software and rebuild your desktop.
-
- If you are a user of McAffee VirusScan version 1.01 on the Macintosh,
- running VirusScan on Extreme 3D can cause a system crash. It is
- recommended that you increase the memory assigned to VirusScan to
- avoid this problem.
